ABOUT DEPARTMENT

The history of the Pedagogy Department dates to 1991, when the Departments of Childhood Pedagogy, Educational Methodology, Social Pedagogy, Art Pedagogy and Educology at the Faculty of Pedagogy (now the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities) were gradually reorganised into the Pedagogy Department by 2016.

The activities of the Pedagogy Department:

    • conducts studies at three levels of the Educational Sciences group: bachelor's, master's and doctoral studies;
    • conducts an additional continuing study programme for persons with a higher education collegiate qualification;
    • together with the Centre for Continuing Studies, provides retraining modular studies for students who have pedagogue professional qualification and wants to acquire another pedagogical specialisation;
    • together with the Spanish Lithuanian school Švyturys, provides distance Lithuanian education for Lithuanian-Spanish children;
    • provides socio-educational research, taking into account the needs of the Western region and its national and international significance;
    • provides socio-educational services to the Western region of Lithuania, carries out project activities, organises conferences in cooperation with educational and non-formal education institutions of Klaipėda city and district, other departments of the University, national and foreign academic, scientific and other institutions.

Pedagogy Department conducts three levels studies:

    • Bachelor's degree programme in Childhood Pedagogy;
    • Master's degree programmes in Educational Sciences, Social Pedagogy, Educational Management;
    • Doctoral study programme in Educational Sciences is jointly provide with other Lithuanian universities.

The Pedagogy Department is the curator of the Tolerance Education Research Laboratory.
