ABOUT DEPARTMENT

The Department of Economics was founded in 1995, after the reorganization of the Department of Economics and Management. At Klaipeda University the Department of Economics started functioning as a part of the Faculty of Maritime Engineering. In 1994 it was transferred to the Faculty of Social Sciences. After merging the faculties of Social Sciences and Humanities and Educational Sciences in 2018, the Department of Economics became a department of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities.

From the establishment of the department until now, the department is headed by prof. dr. Vytautas Juščius. Currently, there are 10 teachers working at the Department of Economics.

The Department of Economics closely cooperates with the academic partners of the European University for the Smart Urban Coastal Sustainability EU-CONEXUS (with other members: La Rochelle Université, Agricultural University of Athens, La Universidad Catolica de Valencia, University of Zadar, Technical University of Civil Engineering Bucharest, University of Rostock, South East Technological University and Frederick University). In addition, the department has signed Erasmus+ bilateral cooperation agreements with universities in Austria, Germany, France, Norway, Spain, Italy, Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Latvia, Poland, Romania, Portugal, Slovakia and Turkey. Close professional relations are maintained with other Lithuanian higher education institutions as well.

The Department of Economics is a leader in economics and marketing sciences in the Western Lithuania region, actively cooperating with the region's associated business structures, municipalities and individual business entities. Graduates of the Department of Economics successfully find employment based on the acquired learning and become middle or top-level managers in Lithuanian and foreign organizations, as well as create and successfully implement their ambitious business ideas.

The Department of Economics coordinates the Bachelor of Economics and Master of Marketing study programs.

The bachelor's study program is conducted in Lithuanian and English.

College graduates are served with 3-semester additional study program.

College graduates are offered to handle shortened bachelor's studies.
