Social Change Studies Center was established in 2015, during the organizational transformation of Klaipėda University, on the basis of the abolished Department of Sociology. The structural transformation was aimed at strengthening social research and more actively gathering individual scientists for joint scientific projects. Currently, the Center is a department of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities of Klaipėda University.
The won and ongoing scientific projects show that the Center has assembled a competitive team of scientists.
The most important directions of research are the problems of long-term societal changes, cultural processes and social development, where special attention is paid to urban and urban identity processes in the city of Klaipėda, issues of post-Soviet society and discursive forms of scientific knowledge. The Center together with the Lithuanian Sociological Society and the Institute of Sociology and Social Work of Vilnius University publishes the scientific journal Sociologija. Mintis ir veiksmas.
