For the fourth time, the partner universities of EU-CONEXUS within the European University Alliance are organizing a contest that invites pupils and teachers to team up and use their eco-ideas to change everyday life and spread the message of sustainability. In Lithuania, 10 teams have registered for this contest in two age categories – 12-15 years and 15-18 years. The teams not only generated ideas on how to create a new product that benefits society from secondary raw materials, but also developed business plans. All the finalist teams had to present and adduce arguments to support their projects at a public event.
In the younger age category, the winner was the Environmental Sustainability team from Klaipėda Simon Dach Progymnasium. The pupils made a thermal sleeping bag/cloak/blanket from recycled materials. “Our goal was not only to create a product that would help people in case of a disaster, but also to contribute to the fight against the effects of climate change,” says the team members when presenting the project.
In the senior age category, the first prize winner, Klaipėda Universa Via International School’s HomeTown Changers team, came up with an idea to use recyclables for educational activities in kindergartens or schools. The team not only presented their project, but also calculated the production costs and developed a communication as well as sales strategy.
The winners of the national final were awarded a solid prize of EUR 1,000 per team. They also won the right to submit their projects to the EU-CONEXUS final stage, where teams from as many as 8 countries will compete in two age categories. The international final is on April 25!
